The Brass Academy runs outstanding courses for brass players aged 8-18 of Grade 1 standard to Grade 8 and Diploma.
Our five day courses can be attended on a residential or day basis.  As well as all the music sessions with our inspiring tutors, there are fun evening activities for those staying overnight, and a daily two hour sports session.

Our 2019 courses are now finished: details of our 2020 courses will be released at the end of October. Watch this space!

Courses for 2019

We run exceptional courses for brass players

  • Our courses are run solely for brass players, and focus on their particular requirements.  This means that there is a lot more time spent playing and a lot less time spent counting endless bars of rests than they would get on an orchestral course.

  • Each afternoon, the children enjoy two hours of organised sport and activities.

  • The Workshop is our advanced course-within-a-course specifically for those who have passed their Grade 8 or Diploma.  It provides a great forum to work with those of a similar high standard while being tutored by world class musicians, and takes place alongside our two Summer Courses.

  • There is a fun programme of evening activities for those staying on a residential basis.

Our tutors are some of the finest performers in the UK

  • They combine immense technical knowledge and musicianship with the ability and enthusiasm to pass on their skills to the next generation of brass musicians.

  • It takes a very special person to become a Brass Academy tutor: many talented professionals do not make great teachers: and many excellent teachers are not good enough performers to have made it to the top of the music industry.  At the Brass Academy, our tutors are at the top of their profession and are brilliant teachers, and they are fundamental to why our courses are so highly regarded.

  • They include Paul Beniston (Principal Trumpet of the London Philharmonic Orchestra), Philippe Schartz (Principal Trumpet of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales), Tom Rainer (Music Director of the Brass Academy and Director of Music at Aldro School), Christian Jones (Principal Bass Trombone of Opera North), Simon Morgan (horn player at The Lion King in London), Lee Tsarmaklis (Principal Tuba of the London Philharmonic Orchestra) and Pete Smith (Principal Tuba of the Philharmonia Orchestra).
