Mick Doran is Principal Percussionist at English National Opera, a position he has held since 1996.
He is also Professor of Percussion at Trinity Laban. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music, Mick was appointed as the Principal Percussionist for the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet Orchestra before moving to ENO. He enjoys a busy freelance career with the UK's premier orchestras, has played on many film scores, including Lord of the Rings, Nanny McPhee, Tomorrow Never Dies and The English Patien. He has also deputized on West End shows such as My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins. Mick has also adjudicated at all the major conservatoires and for BBC Young Musician of the Year, and enjoys playing jazz.
He is also a confident communicator, writing and presenting concerts with top UK orchestras and the Malaysian Philharmonic. He has appeared as a guest on various shows on BBC Radios 2, 3, & 4. He recently launched a one-man show “An A to Z of Orchestral Triangle Playing” that will reach London’s West End in 2015.
Mick is honored to be an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music and delighted to be a Zildjian Cymbals Artist. Other passions of his life are his family, cricket, food, wine, Man Utd and scuba diving.
